“Hooping belongs to a wider family of activities called flow arts. The sensation of flow is what keeps all of us hoop dancers coming back for more.
According to Wikipedia flow is characterized by;
intense and focused concentration on the present moment
merging of action and awareness
a loss of reflective self-consciousness
a sense of personal control or agency over the situation or activity
a distortion of temporal experience, one’s subjective experience of time is altered
experience of the activity as intrinsically rewarding, also referred to as autotelic experience
So irresistible and yet so elusive! It precisely describes a hoop flow.” (Jan Baracz in “Turning Around in Circles”).
How do you make fluid transitions from one movement to the other? How do you move around freely with the hoop, without having to think too much about it? How do you find your flow?
This workshop focuses on the dancing-aspect of hooping. We learn how to better ‘know’ the hoop and move freely with it. Though various exercises, we try to let go of the static ‘thinking about the next move,’ rather, we look at how to make creative variations by playing with the music and the hoop itself. In other words, the workshop focuses on finding those precious moments in which everything seems to go by itself. In which it feels perfect.
The workshop is open to all, although (at least) basic waist hooping is desirable. If you have never hooped before, it would be advisable to follow the Hooping basics workshop (7 december 2014).
